ENTRY GUIDELINES
On entries will be submitted through an online portal this year. Members in good standing in any membership category of TIBD may submit entries. The entry must be the work of the submitting member. When the member is not the sole author of the entry, all other participants substantially contributing to the project must be given credit on the entry form. Entries must not have been accepted for judging in the same category in any previous TIBD Design Competition.
All entries must be received by the deadline noted below. No extensions will be allowed. TIBD reserves the right to combine categories. Incomplete entries will receive point deductions. All decisions of the judges will be final. Winners will be announced at the TIBD Awards Banquet on June 13, 2025.
The Designers’ Choice, Judges’ Choice, and First Place winning entries may be displayed on the TIBD Website’s Design Competition web page for 2025.
ENTRY PRICING
The first entry is $75.00 and each additional entry is $60.00.
There is no charge to enter Legends of TIBD.
SPECIAL AWARDS
Legends of TIBD:
The TIBD Executive Committee may award one of these Special Awards each year. Candidates for this award must have been a member of TIBD for at least ten years and have significantly contributed to TIBD and the design profession. Any TIBD member may nominate a candidate by writing, in 250 words or less, why the candidate should be a Legend of TIBD.
There is no entry fee for this award. Submit your nomination by selecting that category in the online portal.
Designers’ Choice:
All members present at the TIBD Convention will be asked to review the Design Competition entries and vote on their choice of one entry to receive this award.
The W.R. Coleman Award of Excellence:
The Coleman Award will be given to the Designer who receives the judges’ unanimous decision for Best of Show.
PREPARATION OF ENTRIES
All Categories:
• Submit all requested forms through the online portal.
• Entrant’s name, title block and any client identifying text or project location must not be visible on any submittal to be viewed by the judges.
C1 Categories: Built Residential Design Entries
• Submit photographs, site plan, floor plans (show room names, room sizes, overall footprint dimensions and square footage), titles and details in the online portal.
• Submit a brief description of the qualities you wish the judges to consider about your entry.
C2 Categories: Un-Built Residential Design Entries
• Submit elevations, site plan, floor plans (show room names, room sizes, overall footprint dimensions and square footage), titles and details. Renderings are optional.
• Submit a brief description of the qualities you wish the judges to consider about your entry.
C3 Categories: Remodel/Addition Projects
• Submit photographs (before and after), site plan, floor plans (show room names, room sizes, overall footprint dimensions and square footage), titles and details in the online portal.
• Submit a brief description of the qualities you wish the judges to consider about your entry.
C4 & C5 Categories: Commercial Projects & Multi-Housing Projects
• Submit photographs, elevations, site plan, floor plans (show room names, room sizes, overall footprint dimensions and square footage), titles and details.
• Multi-housing projects must be attached housing.
• Submit a brief description of the qualities you wish the judges to consider about your entry.
C6 Category VI: Bob Jackson Artistic Presentation Award
• Submit one copy of any graphic representation (rendering, drawing, sketch, model) used to present your design to your client. These must be done by the designer or staff in house and not by outsourcing to others.
C7 Category: Working Drawings
• Submit one complete set of Working Drawings. Entry set shall be as typically submitted to client or builder for bidding and construction.
• Omit all client, location, and designer information.
SCORING CRITERIA:
• Incorrect or incomplete entries will receive a 5 point deduction for each infraction (incomplete documentation, no site plan, client or designer identification notation, missing room names or room sizes, footprint dimensions, square footage, etc).
• Entries will be judged on a point system and the highest point value in the category will receive a First Place Trophy.
• The second highest point value in the category will receive a Second Place Trophy. Third Place awards will be at the discretion of the Design Competition Committee.
• Check your entry carefully and follow the directions based on your category.
